How to Adopt

If you are interested in adopting from us, or think you might be interested, please complete an Adopter Profile (copy the questions and your answers and email to profile@beaglemaryland.org.)  This tells us the type of home you are going to provide a dog and lets us determine if we have such a dog.  Our objective is to find the perfect home for our dogs from the dog's point of view, so cigar-smoking, poker-playing dogs go to cigar-smoking poker-players and bible-toting Sunday-school dogs go to...well, you get our drift.  We want our dogs to be comfortable and happy.

Once we receive your application/profile we will review it to see if the dog you like would be a good match based on the questions you have answered.   If we feel as though we have a good fit we will arrange a meeting between you and the selected dog/dogs to see if any or all fall in love.  All adopters must provide references (which we check), submit to a home check and be willing to sign a contract agreeing to our Standards for Adoption.  Our adoption fee, collectable at the time when you pick up your dog, is $250 (this is calculated to help cover the cost of rescuing/vetting our beagles).  Preference is given to folks who have successfully owned pets in the past/present.  We welcome first time pet owners but like to see that you've done your homework and know the work, effort  and expense-side of owning a dog.   Our single goal is to place dogs in homes where they will be happy, healthy and wise for the rest of their lives.

If you email or submit an adoption request it may take several days to respond, please be patient.   This is due solely to the fact that Beagle MarylandTM is composed of volunteers who work fulltime jobs AND take care of the dogs up for adoption in their spare time.  The dogs take priority.   Please be understanding.  We want to talk to you and will e-mail/call you as soon as we can.  The dogs are waiting for you to find them. Hey, if it were up to the dogs the Beagle Maryland humans would dump their pesky jobs and look for doggie homes fulltime. Your patience is greatly appreciated!  HOWEVER, sometimes we receive applications without sufficient information with which to contact you.  So check with us!

Adoption Agreement, Adoption Application

NOTE:  If you submit an incomplete profile we will not consider you.  If you are serious about adopting you need to provide phone numbers, veterinary reference (for previous pet owners) and respond to questions.

If you have done all of the above AND you do not hear from us call 301-934-3616, leave a message that you have completed a profile and would like to talk to someone about adopting--we have a few volunteers who are juggling a lot of duties and sometimes we drop the ball...we need your help and cooperation.
