Tater Tot Needs our Help!

Please send the word out on Tater Tot - a small tri-colored female Beagle - who was lost on Thursday 2/25 in Downtown Bel Air in Harford County, MD.  Tater Tot is only 9 months old and was just adopted from Fallston Animal Rescue on Sunday - she is extremely timid and will run if chased.  Tater Tot has a dark purple collar and a pink bone shaped tag with the new owner's phone number.  If you see our little girl, please call Fallston Animal Rescue (410 557-6161 or 410 458-7216) or Melisa Crowe (410 688-9648).

Abraham Lincoln quote

PLEASE HELP!

You may have noticed that we've had some issues with our website lately.  Several weeks ago we inexplicably lost MANY files.  We've spent the subsequent days frantically trying to retrieve and recreate what disappeared.  Unfortunately, our Adopted Dogs link suffered the most damage.  We are proud to have helped the dogs we've rescued, and during some bleak periods, we've looked back through those records to remind ourselves that we have been able to make a difference.  Occasionally, we've even used those photos to identify a lost dog.  We would like our previous adopters to check to see if their Success Story is intact, and if it is not, we'd be very grateful if you could resubmit photos and comments.  If you don't remember what you said, that's OK, just let us know how your dog(s) are doing.  It is important to us and to our current dogs that potential adopters see that these previously unwanted beagles make wonderful companions--and sometimes even change the lives of their "owners" for the better.  Please send your Success Story to betsy@beaglemaryland.org.  Be sure to include your pet's original name as well as the one you gave to him or her.  And please be patient while we complete the tedious task of recreating what we lost.  We hope to hear from  you!

We have just been SLAMMED with some HUGE vet bills and are now trying to raise equally HUGE amounts of money.

Chance came to us with with a badly dislocated hip.  Because the

injury was was left untreated until he came into rescue, what

could have been a quick fix turned into surgery.  This happy little

guy is recovering, but his bills are pending.

Chance
Lucky Griggs is heartworm positive.
Tyler Charles is heartworm positive.  Tyler Charles

Alex (R. Alexander) has a grade 5 (out of 6) heart murmur.  He needs to have an echocardiogram in order to properly diagnose and choose the best medication to help him.

Alex

Tommy Tinker came with what was supposed to be a broken leg....turns out he has multiple fractures to his pelvis and a severely broken leg requiring surgery.  He's also heartworm positive and must undergo treatment.  He has had his surgery and needs prayers that his recovery will go smoothly for him and that we can raise money to pay the vet.

Bailey is being treated for a skin condition that caused him incessant itching, as well as the Ear Infection From Hell.  Not only are his meds expensive, the contagious nature of his skin condition necessitated his being boarded until he was no longer contagious.  Just sprung from the vet, he is delighted to find himself out of isolation, but leaves a whale of a vet bill in his wake.

Morgan Le Fay came to us like so many others, with heartworm disease.  This little cutie also has a mammary tumor and will undergo surgery for its removal.

Morgan

Lola is heartworm positive, complicated by the fact that now there is a shortage of the medication used to treat heartworm...and as with any shortage, the cost skyrockets.

Ivy has a torn ligament and has undergone costly surgery
My name is Ivy, and I'm 9 years old.  A few weeks ago, my foster mom noticed I was limping pretty badly, so she took me to the vet to see if my Lyme Disease had come back.  The doctor said it seemed to be something worse than that, so he wanted me to see a specialist.

Do you know that all the dogs in rescue with Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland are being fostered in private homes?  Our foster homes are full, full, full.  These homes take in the young, the old, the happy-go-lucky, the very scared, those who have never lived in a home or received positive human attention.  Some are getting nourishing food for the first time, no longer have mange or fleas or heartworm disease or parasites.   Their foster homes are teaching them that all humans aren't bad and life can be good in a forever home.

Do you also know that we get anywhere from 1-3 requests to help these unfortunate dogs a week?   Now for the "pitch."  The last few pleas we sent out for foster homes came up empty and we were not able to help.  Because we have to be sure that our foster homes are up to the task, we have limited our plea for help to persons who have already fostered or adopted from us.  Now I would like to extend the invitation to those who may have thought about fostering.

If you have ever considered fostering a dog, even just once, we are asking you consider it now.  You will have access to the resources of BRSM and someone will be there to help and encourage you.

If you can help, please contact Judy at fosters@beaglemaryland.org.  If you would like to read about the responsibility and what is expected of a foster, visit our website at Fostering

Thank you.

Judy
