Our next adoption event will be at the Hanover Petsmart (Arundel Mills) on September 4 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Keep watching for a list of available dogs who will be attending.

The BRSM volunteers have been busily preparing for our 5th Annual Beagle Bash.  Their hard work should pay off with a great time for you and your beagle (or beagle wannabe).  The beautiful Countryside Kennels has again donated the use of their grounds for this great event.  There is a large fenced area where your beagle can channel his inner pack member... running and sniffing to his/her heart's content!

*Pet Photographer Melissa McDaniel will be attending the Beagle Bash again this year! Melissa does beautiful work, and she is a generous supporter of rescue groups. The sitting fee will be $20, 100% of which will be donated to BRSM! Photos will be available online a few days after the event for viewing and purchase. Check out some of Melissa's work at www.thephotobooks.com. She is hoping that her photo books will be shipped in time to sell at the Bash. If so, she will be donating 30% of the proceeds from books sold that day!

**This year we'll host a costume contest.  We've got two themes... Heros and International.  Hint:  Judging will favor costumes that are homemade rather than store purchased.  Let's see how creative you can be!

There's nothing we like better than hanging out with Beagle People and meeting their beagles, so please join us!

Now is the time to be thinking about the 2nd annual BRSM Flea Market!  Spaces are only $10 (or $15 if you want us to supply a table).
If you plan on parking that car of yours in the garage this winter, you're going to need to clean it out, and we're providing the perfect
opportunity to make some money off your unwanted treasures.  We've plenty of room.  For details contact jean@beaglemaryland.org.
If you don't have the inclination to participate, but have some gently used items that we could sell to benefit the rescue, please consider donating them.

Donations Desperately Needed!

It's been a challenging year economically, yet the beagles in need keep coming!

Can  you help with their vet bills? We (and the beagles) would sincerely appreciate it. 
Any donation amount is great, it all helps the hounds! 

We are in need of money to pay the veterinary bills.  BRSM rescues many heartworm

positive dogs, as well as those needing more extensive care.  The drug necessary to treat

heartworm has become scarce (temporarily, we hope), therefore making an expensive

treatment even more so.  Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. 

Small donations add up to BIG help.  These are only a few of the dogs requiring

extra veterinary care.

 

Petie R. has successfully been treated for heartworm disease.
Regan Charles has successfully been treated for heartworm disease.
In addition to her routine treatment upon entering rescue, we found out poor Bunny had several abscessed teeth.  When a dental was performed, Bunny had to have eleven teeth removed.
Lucky Griggs is recovering from heartworm treatment.
Tyler Charles has successfully been treated for heartworm disease.
Alex (R. Alexander) has a grade 5 (out of 6) heart murmur.  He needed to have an echocardiogram in order to properly diagnose and choose the best medication to help him.
Tommy Tinker came with what was supposed to be a broken leg....turns out he has multiple fractures to his pelvis and a severely broken leg requiring surgery.  He was also heartworm positive and endured that treatment, as well.  Tommy has recovered from his trials, but we have not.
Morgan Le Fay came to us like so many others, with heartworm disease.  She also had a mammary tumor and the surgery to remove it.

Do you know that all the dogs in rescue with Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland are being fostered in private homes?  Our foster homes are full, full, full.  These homes take in the young, the old, the happy-go-lucky, the very scared, those who have never lived in a home or received positive human attention.  Some are getting nourishing food for the first time, no longer have mange or fleas or heartworm disease or parasites.   Their foster homes are teaching them that all humans aren't bad, and life can be good in a forever home. 

 

Do you also know that we get anywhere from 1-3 requests to help these unfortunate dogs a week?   Now for the "pitch."  The last few pleas we sent out for foster homes came up empty and we were not able to help.  Because we have to be sure that our foster homes are up to the task, we have limited our plea for help to persons who have already fostered or adopted from us.  Now I would like to extend the invitation to those who may have thought about fostering.  

 

If you have ever considered fostering a dog, even just once, we are asking you to consider it now.  You will have access to the resources of BRSM and someone will be there to help and encourage you.
