Animal companions aren't
maintenance-free, as any
pet owner can tell you! Besides supplies for daily care (dog food, bedding,
toys, etc.) they need annual vet visits --- and more frequent visits if they
have a medical condition. Considering the expenses associated with a healthy
dog, you can imagine the kinds of costs we incur rescuing dogs from shelters! At a minimum,
each of our rescued beagles recieves a complete physical, basic vaccinations
(DHLPP and Rabies), routine deworming, microchipping, heartworm test, heartworm
preventative, flea/tick preventative, and spay/neuter.
Since we frequently bring in beagles who've been passed over by other rescues
because of pre-existing (but treatable) health conditions, we often incur far
above the norm in veterinary expenses. If any problem is found during the
beagle's initial physical, we treat the problem, be it Lyme disease, kennel cough, intestinal parasites, ear
infection, tooth decay or periodontal disease (in some case involving abcess),
heartworm infection, mange, malnutrition, dangling dew claws, mammary tumors,
broken toes, pelvic plates, limbs, etc. Our requested adoption fee of $250, which
is calculated to cover the minimum costs involved in preparing a basically
healthy dog for adoption, barely addresses the vet bills of beagles needing more
than routine vetting. For example, even with a generous discount from our vet, it costs several hundred
dollars to cure heartworm disease alone.
We do not receive funding from any organization or humane society. All of our
money comes
from the generosity of individuals like you. No donation is too small! A mere
$20 will place your name on our website, listed as the sponsor of whichever dog
you choose.
Please consider sponsoring one of our
beagles! Let us know which beagle you'd like to sponsor with an email to
