Memorial Page Memorial Page for BRSM Dogs Who've Passed to the Following Beagles
"The Legend of Rainbow Bridge" "Dinah in Heaven"
This is Winston, the founding beagle of BRSM. He was found by Animal Control starving and freezing out in the winter weather. He had heartworm disease, epilepsy, a tumor, and tooth decay, and was thought to be at least ten years old. Through an interesting string of events, Winston became BRSM's first foster dog. It was was not originally intended that way --- but we are all grateful for Winston's appearance and legacy! Winston was a model of tenacity, perseverance, and unconditional love. Winston passed in May 2001.
especially by our rescued beagles!

Quite unexpectedly, Sydney Charles passed away on June 23. Sydney was a beautiful, steady, easy-going girl who languished in rescue for over a year. We have no idea why this lovely little dog was consistently overlooked. Her foster mom (who has literally known HUNDREDS of beagles) always told us “Syd is just the best!” We take solace in the knowledge that she was loved. |

Kris fought a six-month battle with cancer and on 6/21/11 his Mom and the vet thought that he had fought as long as he possibly could. Kris was yet another lucky BRSM beagle that found a loving home along with two other BRSM beagles. We at BRSM are grateful to Lisa for giving all her pups the love, care and attention that all dogs deserve. |

Boscoe came to BRSM in October of 2006. He was consistently overlooked for just over a year when the love of his life found him. She wrote, "There he was, double chinned and smiling so hard his eyes crinkled, and so happy that he was bouncing his front feet back and forth like he was marching in place. For me, it was love at first sight.” Boscoe was an exuberant, joyful, very sweet "Party Beagle." He will be missed by all who knew him, but most especially by his family. Boscoe passed in April 2011. |

Just a pup, Mikey came to rescue in 2006. Unwilling to separate he and his sister Mae and profoundly shy, Mikey wasn't a great candidate for adoption and never found a traditional forever home. He lived out his days with his "foster" family, who were, in every way his loving "real" family. Sadly, Mikey slipped his collar during a routine vet trip and was on the loose for more than a week. After a relentless search by his family and others, Mikey ended up being hit by a train on 3/12/11. His "parents," and all of us at BRSM are devastated. |

Sasha came to us in 2005. Adopted out once and returned, Sasha never got another chance at a permanent home; partly because she developed some serious health issues, including Cushings disease. Sasha lived out the rest of her life with a foster mom who loved her very much. Sasha passed March 2, 2011. |
![]() |
Rosie came to the rescue in June 2006 with Katie, whom we assumed was her daughter. Not wanting to separate the two obviously bonded girls, Rosie was with her foster mom until her death on February 18, 2011. She was loved and is missed by her foster mom... and Katie. |

Laura Belle passed away quietly in her sleep on January 9, 2011 after 5 wonderful years in her forever home. Her "mom" wrote: We miss her so much, she was such a wonderful dog. She had the most amazing bay and she would always use it a feeding times, she loved to eat. She really blossomed into a wonderful dog in the 5 years that we had her. Thanks for giving us a chance and letting us be her parents." |
![]() |
Charlie (formerly Sassafras) came into rescue in June of 2008, already closing in on her senior years. She was lucky enough to find adopters who saw the beauty and potential of an older pet. She was very much loved. She passed in January of 2011. |
![]() |
BooBoo had been in rescue for only a short while. He was loving, funny and affectionate. He passed in the arms of his foster mom - who misses him still. Boo Boo passed on January 20, 2011. |
![]() |
Dudley passed peacefully in the arms of his mom on December 7, 2010. His mom said, "He has been a wonderful dog, not just to me, but to so many people whose lives he's touched in the course of his work as a therapy dog--the seniors at the care facilities he went to, the children at the schools he visited, and the young readers to whom he gave a willing ear and the confidence to read aloud in the Read to Rover program. He was a wonderful dog." To read the saga of Dudley's transformation from thrown away dog to super hero, click here. |

On 10/31/10, Aladdin (affectionately known as "Zookie") crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. His foster mom wrote: "Zookie came to the rescue very ill with pneumonia and heartworm. His coat was thin and worn out. He had a tear in his ear, small growths over much of his body, including the inside of an eyelid (with resulting damage to the cornea), and he had an insatiable appetite for love. A hunter reject, he was known in the neighborhood as The Town Crier because he bugled to his heart's content on his walks. But people seemed to enjoy his enthusiasm for the outdoors and often came up to us to pet him. His favorite place in the house was Etienne's (foster dad) lap and he 'demanded' his right to sit there. He was a poetic and emotional boy and we had no problem with making him howl. He even responded to the sound of a fire engine in Nairobi that came over Skype while we were talking with our daughter who lives there. Even though he did not find his forever home, he was 'ours' and was very much loved and spoiled. He will be missed ever so sorely. Good-bye Big Brown Bear. We love you very much." |

Lena came to us pregnant in 2001. She was one of the first dogs that Mara rescued, but it wouldn't be the last time Lena would be pulled from a kill shelter. Her first adoptees dumped her in a kill shelter in Salt Lake City, and if not for her microchip she would never have made it out. Shortly thereafter, she found the home of a lifetime with Barb and Greg who loved her dearly. She crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on 9/27/10. |
|
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to R. Alexander (affectionately known as "Al"). Al had been in rescue since May of 2009. His "party beagle" persona hid a myriad of ailments, including congestive heart failure. Al passed on September 20, 2010. His foster mom was with him. He never found his forever family, but he knew joy in his foster home. |
![]() |
Harvey lost a four-month battle with cancer and heart failure complications in August 2010. While we know that his Mom Kate, Aunt Eloise, family and friends are devastated by his loss (he also known to his Mom as "Velcro Dog"), we also know that Harvey spent six wonderful years with Kate, who loved him dearly and gave Harvey the best home any dog could ever have. |
![]() |
Gypsy crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge in July of 2010 after a brief illness. Gypsy was adored by her adoptive "parents" as well as her foster mom. She was a great little beagle girl and will be missed. |
![]() |
Augusta ("Gussie" to those who loved her) crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on June 19, 2010. Gussie was one of those "experienced" Beagles who came to rescue late in life and, perpetually overlooked because of her age, never did find her forever home --- though she was lovingly fostered. She was sweet-natured, reveling in human company, and was a good companion to her foster mom. Gussie will be missed. |
![]() |
Sophie went to the Rainbow Bridge on May 18, 2010, after losing the battle pancreatitis. Sophie was dearly loved by her Mom, Rose, and her Aunt Lillian. Sophie was a darling little beagle who was loved by all who met her. We at BRSM extend our sympathies to Rose, and are grateful to Rose for giving Sophie such a wonderful home; we know how much Sophie will be missed. |
|
|
Peaches went to the Rainbow Bridge on May 17, 2010. She had had a bad day, struggling to stand and walk, and finally having a seizure. Doug and Cindi, along with Peaches' "sisters," will miss her very much. She was quite a character and brought a lot of joy to their lives. |
![]() |
On April 24, 2010, Columbo went to the Rainbow Bridge. He had a mom who loved him deeply and did everything she could to make his years with her safe and happy ones. |
![]() |
Lollipop was one of those consistently overlooked dogs who never did find her forever home, though she was lovingly fostered. She came to us in February of 2006 and died in her sleep on March 24, 2010. Her foster mom loved her and she was happy there. |
![]() |
Henrietta, also known as "Henny" and "Henoso,"
went to the Rainbow Bridge on
February 19, 2010. Described by her "mom" as the "best and sweetest
dog in the world," she will be greatly missed by her family. |

Sweet Miles (2/6/10) was loved by everyone. Adopted and returned not once, but twice to BRSM, he just couldn't seem to land a permanent home --- until he found himself at Colleen and Eric's house. Miles was a grand old man, just full of spunk and very playful, until nearly the end. He had been ill for a few weeks, but was made comfortable. During the Blizzard of 2010, his family could not watch him suffer anymore, and Eric braved the roads to get him to the emergency vet. Miles is at peace. Most of the BRSM volunteers knew him and truly loved him. Miles was a great dog. |
![]() |
T. Tucker (2/2/10) was one of the very first dogs that Mara rescued for BRSM. Mara's home turned out to be his forever home. As with many dogs who have passed through her doors, T. Tucker held a special place in her heart. He was always referred to as "my dog," and he was loved and is missed. |
|
Franny (2/1/10) had been in her forever home for nearly six years. She was one of those easy beagles who never met a human or dog that she did not like. Franny had been ill for nearly a year when she passed. She is deeply loved by her family. |
![]() |
On January 23, 2010 we lost Carolyn. Adopted out and returned when her human lost her home, Carolyn landed in a Forever Foster home where she was adored. Carolyn was the undisputed queen in her home and was treated thusly. She was clever, affectionate, and oh, so clearly the alpha dog. Her family was heartbroken to lose this funny, happy, totally spoiled family member. |
![]() |
Izzie came into rescue very late in her life. She had suffered neglect and was in poor health. Her foster mom took her from the shelter and gave her the very best life she could for her remaining time. Izzy was with us for less than a year, but she knew love for the remainder of her life. She passed on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. |
![]() |
Charlie came into rescue at the advanced age of 10 (or more). He found his forever home with people who loved him every single minute for the rest of his live. Charlie passed on October 22, 2009. His "mom" wrote a lovely tribute which you can read on his homepage. |
![]() |
It is with great sadness that we inform you that Buddy (originally Bandit) crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on May 25, 2009. He had a major seizure and was taken to the emergency vet who discovered he had advanced pancreatic cancer. He was pts in his Dad's loving arms. Buddy started his life under such bad conditions before coming to BRSM that I know he considered his life with us to be heaven. He died a very happy boy. He is greatly missed by his brother Chappy, another BRSM alumni, who is well and happy at the great old age of 15ish. |
![]() |
Bella's (formerly CC) "mom" wrote: "Please know that Bella spent the last six years of her life as a princess. After the adoption through BRSM, Bella really came out of her shell. If you recall, when I got her, she had been shot with a pellet gun and still had the pellet in her abdomen. She clearly hadn't been treated very well --- but she still had so much dignity and love for humans. She was an amazing dog and I wouldn't trade one minute with her. It was my honor to care for such a wonderful being." Bella passed on September 4, 2009 |
![]() |
Gracie wasn't adopted until very late in her life. She was adopted by a beagle lover who saw something in Gracie that others may not have seen. If Gracie could have talked she would have said thanks to Mary Ann for giving her a wonderful home filled with love. September 2009 |
![]() |
Noel was in rescue for a long time. She was
adopted out twice and twice returned through no fault of her own.
Finally, one of our own (a BRSM volunteer) made Noel a permanent part of her
family. Noel's last year was spent as a beloved member of a happy
family. August 2009 |
![]() |
Hannah came to us with multiple health issues, a few of which would remain
chronic. Hannah's mom adopted her knowing full well that their time
together might be short. She loved her, anyway. Hannah's brief
life was lightened by her loving human and her beagle sister Morgan. We are
grateful that someone thought Hannah was worth the all-too-soon heartbreak.

Lincoln crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge in May 2009. He achieved what we wish for all of our dogs. At the time of his passing, he was happily ensconced in a forever home with people who loved him enough to grieve at his passing. |
|
|
Taylor crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge today (May 9, 2009). After being diagnosed with cancer and given a prognosis of 6 months, she fought hard for over a year and a half. She died in the loving arms of her foster Mom and Dad. She will be very sorely missed. |

On May 7, 2009, we received this note from Morrie's loving family: "Morrie rode off into the sunset yesterday. Life caught up with my old man. He was pretty much deaf with I got him and as time went on his eyesight started to go as well. But damned if he still wasn't the happiest, wildest little old man! He was always happy (and hungry) and I loved him. I had him only 2 1/2 years, but he was my best friend. I loved him so much and will miss him for the rest of my days. I hope he's happy and healthy and as wild and crazy up in heaven as he was down here with me. I'll never forget his little gray face." |

Laura Lee Hope, at an advanced age, finally found herself in a loving home with a doting mom. We are comforted to say that she was spoiled rotten at the time of her passing on May 11, 2009. |
![]() |
On Saturday, April 18, 2009 our beloved little Beagle girl, Buttercup, passed away. Her "mom" writes: "Of all the Beagles we have had over the years, there has been none like Buttercup. She was absolutely the sweetest, most loving little Beagle." |
![]() |

|
|

![]() |
12/12/08: Oscar Huff crossed to the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Oscar came to us in November, malnourished and underweight. So grateful to find himself in a warm and loving foster home, he fell asleep that first night in his foster mom's lap. Unfortunately, Oscar's medical problems soon became apparent and overwhelming. He went to sleep with his foster mom's loving hands upon him. He was loved and he mattered to us. |

Lucy (formerly known as Cedar) crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday (Nov 20, 2008). Lucy suffered terribly from seizures, and in spite of the prospect of a lifetime of ill health, her family adopted her anyway, and loved and cared for her until the end. They were with her when she passed. Her "mom" wrote us: "We are devastated, but we also find solace in knowing that Lucy is at peace and that she will not ever have to go through anything like this again. Our five years with Lucy were challenging at times, but she always brought us a tremendous amount of joy and unconditional love. She was the sweetest dog, always up for a snuggle, and she had a look to her face that would make us melt. Lucy was healthier than ever over the past several months, and we know that she lived a very good life until the end." |

|
Claude Monet passed away on
October 31, 2008 after a 1
1/2 year long battle with lung cancer. His "mom" loved him very much and
sent to us the following message: For Claude, my sweet pie, The very first time I saw you on the BRSM website, I knew that you were the one for me. And since I met you on Christmas night 2005, you were my constant companion and my best friend. I miss you so much but am thankful for every day that we spent together. You were loved more than words can say. |

Sweet Rufus was snatched out of the yard of his foster home and shot in October 2008. It was a particularly cruel and unhappy ending for a very sweet boy. |
![]() |
Sweet January passed away on 7/29/08. Her mom Rachel writes, "I only had her for three years, but she was such a blessing to me and my family. I am so blessed that God sent her to me and Hugo because we needed her. I hope I was able to erase from her memory all the bad things she endured before she came to Beagle Rescue." January was the epitome of the word "Beagle." She was happy, lively, engaged and engaging. Whatever hardship and abuse she had suffered was forgotten when she went to live with Rachel. January adored Rachel. And she adored mealtime. Rachel continued, "One more thing --- for the record, her last official meal was corn beef hash and toast." |

exceptionally sweet little dog. Her "mom" continued, "Now I am sure she is
chasing all the squirrels and rabbits she could wish for." |

Jean Marie was a senior beagle at BRSM, and month after month she was overlooked in favor of younger and more outgoing dogs --- until the day she and Mandy met. Little Jeannie walked away holding her head high and discovered the joys of living in her own loving and caring forever home. She battled many health issues --- from an enlarged heart to cancer --- but weathered them all and basked in her mom's unconditional love. In the last few days, however, her health had seriously deteriorated. Jean Marie passed away on April 25, 2008. She is sorely missed by her family. |

Rue O'Leary had been in rescue for about two weeks. Almost immediately Rue's foster mom noticed she was ill. After more than a few vet visits, it was clear that Rue was very ill. On April 12, 2008, Rue crossed to the Rainbow Bridge. She was very young and had a hard life. When she died, Rue was in her foster mom's arms and being petted. Her foster mom knew her as a sweet girl and mourns her deeply. |

It's with real regret that we must post that another BRSM alumna has passed, although it is with great satisfaction that we tell you that Lanie Lou was very much spoiled, and very well loved for six years. She had a mom and a dad and aunts and all sorts of extended family members . . . and she was the boss of them all. January 2008

Chessie, our little fellow who was rescued from the middle of the Chesapeake Bay by a kind boater, died of a stroke in his foster mom's bed after a brief illness. Compared to the terrors of being thrown overboard and drowning, it was a peaceful and kind passing. Chessie got to know a loving home for more than a year before he passed. November 3, 2007 |

Lucy Mozart never did find her forever home, but was fostered by
Tracy and a loving family. She may not have known a lot of love and
affection in her previous life --- she was another abandoned stray at the shelter, but
her last six months were spent surrounded by love with people who only wanted
the best for her. November 3, 2007

From Ferdy's Mom: I have sad news about our little buddy Ferdy. He died Saturday July 7 in my arms in a comfy chair with a nice soft blanket. He had become suddenly lame the day before, after suffering with back pain since July 3. He was diagnosed on July 4 with a slipped disc at the base of his tail, which was pressing against the spinal cord. He was treated for pain which just got worse and worse over three days. Finally, morphine was not comforting him and there was nothing left I could do for him. He is buried in the back yard under the mulberry tree. Ferdy was a great companion, he was stubborn, a real funny boy, friendly to all, loved squirrels and birds and large leaves in the road. (I think he had very poor eyesight.) He loved his twice daily walks and had several favorite girlfriends he would meet out on our walks. There are three sets of white dogs in the neighborhood who wanted to "kill" him whenever we passed by their fence. I have no idea what that was about. Ferdy didn't mind them at all. They were just mad cause they did not get walks. His favorite girlfriends were the three big dogs next door - two huge black labs and one sweet brown Rottie mix. They all just loved each other. One of the girls lost her fight with old age about a week before Ferdy collapsed, so it was a sad week in the neighborhood. He had just gone in to get his teeth cleaned, too. And that nasty old growth on top of his ear was removed, and the weepy goopy growth on his eyelid also taken off. He was looking so handsome, and then a month later --- he was gone. Ferdy had a very good life here, he was never in the crate after the first month. He just barked and complained all day about it, so that was the end of that. He would sneak chocolate where he found it, and would tear up anything to get to it if he smelled it. He had a terrific nose. He once ate nine pages of a legal pad --- it had a piece of chocolate sitting on it for about two minutes, three months before I brought it home from work. Amazing. I was so mad at him I couldn't even look at him for an hour. I had to tape all those nasty little pieces of paper back together, because the notes were irreplaceable from a client meeting. Ferdy did not mind getting a bath. He loved to play with the sock monkey and a squeaky toy. And empty paper towel rolls! Tear them to pieces! Fight them and throw them around! Crazy! It was a happy day when he first played by himself. I could hear his little feet thumping on the floor, and saw the rugs all skidded up against the walls. He loved to chase me down the hall, and then have me chase him, too. It was his favorite thing to do as soon as the harness came off after his walk. Sometimes I would hide and then whistle, he would come running to find me, then I would pop out and growl at him. That was his favorite game. He would run like a bunny!
He was a great companion, as
I said. I am very grateful to you, Mara, for the work that you do. I never tire
of telling the story about the Friends of Winston and how I found Ferdinand. I
still miss him, because I talked to him all the time. And he was always
underfoot. July 7, 2007 |

It is with great, great sadness that we say farewell to our
Beanie, who has crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge after a long and hard-fought
battle with cancer.
His "mom" was with him, holding and comforting him. In life Beanie made her
laugh 'til she cried, made her madder than heck, and loved her
unconditionally.
|
|
|
Dora also lost a long battle with cancer. Her "mom" and "dad" felt they were lucky in finding Dora --- that she was "the smartest, most wonderful dog we've ever had." We know she will be missed.
Dora was loved, received excellent care, and was a happy
little girl. She had a good ending to her sweet life thanks to the family who
adopted her. July 19, 2007 |

|
Zoey was an elderly girl whom we suspect was used for breeding and then dumped at the night drop at a shelter. She came to us
filthy, bedraggled and starved. We thought she was probably around 13- 15
years old. At that ripe old age, Zoey finally found a loving home where
she was a valued family member. Although we are sorry for her passing, we
are grateful to the family who allowed her to know love. June 20, 2007

Danny was a friendly, very loving, very tolerant beagle boy whom we regret never found his forever family. He passed in January of 2007. |

|
Charlie Calvert passed over to the Rainbow Bridge on January 9, 2007. He had been fostered for several months by two very loving women. He became ill enough to warrant a trip to the vet, and grew more ill. He was diagnosed with a fast growing cancer and was in quite a lot of pain. He is no longer in pain and died a much beloved pet. His family misses him dearly. |
|
|
Our little puppy Rudy passed over to the Rainbow Bridge on January 8, 2007. Rudy was fine until January 7, when he became very ill. The vet discovered he had a liver shunt and given his little size, age, and tender condition, he was not a good candidate for a difficult surgery. So we let him go to sleep. Rudy made a difference in many peoples' lives. He was of value and he knew the good life for a few weeks thanks to Colleen, Erik, Sam and Matthew. He will never be forgotten. |

Beautiful Ginger, after many months of battling illness, has gone to a better place on June 8, 2006. She brought much joy to her foster family. |
Kaitlin was a very friendly, steady old beagle who was scheduled to be euthanized at the shelter when a BRSM volunteer walked through the door. She had what is most likely a temporary hair loss condition that may have been caused by poor nutrition, fleas, or possibly a thyroid condition. She came to BRSM where she loved to sleep on the hearth. Kaitlin crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on May 17, 2006. She was loved and is missed. |
|
|
Isabel was a beautiful beagle/basset who came to BRSM with a serious ear infection. In just one week with BRSM, and with the help of proper ear medication, she transformed into a frisky, playful hound. Izzy never found a forever home, but at BRSM she was loved, cared for, and happy. She crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on May 16, 2006. She is missed. |

|
Our little Byron left us this morning. He was one of our Friend Of Winston Forever Fosters who became ill. His Mom, Samantha, took him to the hospital, and found out he was in renal failure. He continued to decline, and soon it was felt that he was not going to improve and the decision was made to end his suffering; he was pts on February 10, 2006. Byron was a sweetheart and had always been such a good boy. Please include Samantha and Dale in your prayers. They were with him at the end petting and scratching him, which were his favorite things. He was so loved and is missed. |

Fletcher beame suddenly ill, having a hard time getting up and very lethargic. The vet found that he had a grapefruit-sized tumor on his spleen that had ruptured. With Fletcher's age (13-14 years old), the loss of blood and the size of the tumor, the decision was made euthanize. Sara and Sherrie met at Hillside, stayed with Fletcher for awhile, let him eat a bunch of milkbones, then said their goodbyes as Sara held him. He had been with Sara since September 2004 and was fortunate to know a good and loving home if only for a short time. Fletcher crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on January 16, 2006. |

"It is with
great sadness that I write to let you know that Bobby (Magee) died the
Monday before Thanksgiving (November 21, 2005). He had had a long struggle with
bronchitis, and he had been sick a long time. He had a hard time getting
around. That Monday he fell and tore the ligaments in his knee badly and
would not have been able to survive surgery. He was a gentle and good soul."
Bobby came from Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was thought to be an old dog because his face was white. BRSM took him, and it turned out that Bobby was not so old after all. He was lucky to go taken into a great family who loved him very much. He had four wonderful years of being a beloved house pet. |

"I adopted Princess Freckles early this year. I had originally got her as a companion for my older German shepherd/chow mix, Sunny. They hit it off fabulously, and were best buds from the front door except for the fact that Freckles was positive that she was to be in charge, and Sunny let her. As it turns out I ended up having to put Sunny to sleep in September of this year because he had a very aggressive case of cancer. Sunny was my family dog, and it hurt my family deeply to see him leave. If we had not had Freckles I don’t know what we would have done. She has been a constant source of delight for me and my family. And everyone knows that every where I go, she goes. My mother has fallen hopelessly in love with her and has stopped coming by to see me but to spend time with Freckles. This Christmas she received more gifts than me, including a Landsend fleece jacket that was embroidered to say Princess Freckles. I don’t know how I can ever thank you for letting me have her. Though she has turned into the master of us we are quite happy to march to her beat. I am enclosing some Christmas day photos of her, sitting on the top of my mother’s suede couch, which of course she has decided is her place to be. Happy New Year to all the beagles, from there former cohort Princess Freckles and her new forever family." Freckles crossed to the Rainbow Bridge in January 2005. |

"We adopted Dante (formerly Elmer) from Beagle Rescue of
Southern Maryland in August of 2002. He had been abandoned in WV, and had
clearly been abused. Likely on account of having been abused before,
Dante became attached at the hip to both Tammy and me; he became almost a
'lap dog.' Dante's favorite things to do were to sit on your feet and beg to
be petted. Dante left us October 27, 2004 due to complications of a heart problem, but his was certainly a success story. Kind of ironic, it was the size of his heart that ultimately signaled that it was time to go. Please feel free to use Dante's success story to encourage potential adopters to consider adopting an older or a sick dog. The rewards of seeing that pooch really enjoy the rest of life, loved by a family of his own, is worth all the effort in helping him along." |

Sugar was from King George, Virginia, and was probably Tattler's mom. She had heartworm disease and started the treatment last Friday. She was down when her foster mom came home from work on May 24, 2004, and could hold her head up, but not stand. She died on the way to the emergency vet. Her foster mom was petting Sugar when she passed. |

Madison Clark underwent surgery to remove an invasive tumor and successfully recovered from the anesthetic. She died in her sleep that night, April 22, 2004, probably from an embolism due to heartworm. Maddie was with BRSM Volunteer Sherrie for three weeks. During that short time, Maddie knew love, had chew bones, and received pain medicine. Maddie loved to go for walks and would have enjoyed being allowed to run. Maddie will never be forgotten, and we believe she is in a place where beagles can roam and find food and toys and treats around every corner. |

Homer, a beautiful bouncing year-old bundle of energy, escaped his yard last week. Homer loved to explore and this he did. Unfortunately he didn't see the car that hit him. Homer left us last Friday, November 7, 2003. We can't bring Homer back, but we can ask beagle owners to double check their fences and look with the eyes of a hound for unique means of escape. Homer was lucky to know love in his short life. |

This is Susie, co-fouding
beagle (along with Winston) of BRSM. She spent a
lot of her life in one rescue or another, but her last four years were with us
at BRSM (even before we were BRSM!). Suse never seemed to mind all the
crowd of animals in her foster home. She followed her mom around and checked out any activity
worth noting. She enjoyed food every day of her life with us. She gave so much love
and asked very little in return. Toward the end, Suse wandered a lot. We were
with her at the end. We held Suse and wished we could make her well again.
She crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on April 5, 2002. We hope Suse can rest now. We hope she is with Winston, who adored her. |

Rosie came to us via a good
Samaritan. We don't have a picture of Rosie --- we thought there would be time
to get her picture. She was put out of a car after having a litter of pups
and developing a hernia. A very nice lady took
Rosie in, and we paid for her hernia operation, her spaying, and her cherry
eye. Rosie was also heartworm-positive. We would have treated her heartworm,
but Rosie's kidneys couldn't take any more. Rosie crossed over to the
Rainbow Bridge on March 22, 2002. |
