CAROLINE COUNTY, VIRGINIA, FAIR

July 20, 2005

It was a hot and muggy summer day. The agricultural tent at the fair was showcasing cows, alpacas, goats…. and dogs. The beagle ambassadors – Andi Bay and Beatrice -were there to show everyone how great and unique our dogs are. The faithful volunteers, Judy, Mary, Livia and Ewa – sweaty, but smiling – were also there holding the fort.

 GO ANDI BAY!!!

Andi Bay and her foster, Judy, got the crowd all worked up. People were going wild, throwing flowers into the arena, waving banners, abandoning their barbecue sandwiches, and cheering them on until they got hoarse. Andi took the fifth place in the … ahem … doggie butt contest and sixth place in the look-alike contest. How are she and Judy alike? “We both like to eat, sleep and lounge around the house” said Judy.

Burdened with the weight of her newly-found celebrity, Andi Bay slept all the way home. We’re grateful that for once Judy and Andi were not alike since Judy had to do the driving.

 Presentation

Beagle Maryland was asked to make a small presentation. Talented as we are, we introduced ourselves, spoke fondly of our many wonderful beagles and encouraged people to visit not only us, but the local animal shelter and other rescues. We introduced Beatrice – a former laboratory dog now living happily and comfortably in Richmond – who was very nervous about the experience, but tried very hard to keep a stiff upper lip.
