How to Adopt a BRSM Beagle

If you would like to adopt one of our beagles:

* Review our Standards for Adoption
* Fill out an Adopter Profile and email it to us at profile@beaglemaryland.org (or print the Adopter Profile, fill it in and send it via regular mail, if you prefer)
* A BRSM volunteer will contact you to guide you through the rest of the process!

The Adopter Profile tells us about the type of home you are going to provide a dog and lets us determine if we have such a dog. Our objective is to find the perfect home from the dog's point of view, so cigar-smoking poker-playing dogs go to cigar-smoking poker-playing homes, and impeccably-mannered Sunday-school dogs go to . . . well, you get the picture. We want our dogs to be comfortable and happy.   

Once we receive your Adopter Profile, we review it thoroughly (please be sure to fill it out completely --- we check all references, and we do not accept or review incomplete applications). We then schedule a home visit. Once the Adopter Profile has been reviewed and approved and the home visit successfully completed, we determine whether the dog you're interested in would be a good match based on the questions you have answered and your home environment. If we feel as though there's a good fit between prospective adopter and adoptee, we will arrange a meeting between you and the selected dog or dogs; we may also suggest an alternative dog who we believe might be a better candidate for your particular home environment or living situation. Our adoption fee of $300, along with a signed Adoption Agreement, is due at the time you pick up the dog.

Preference is given to people who have successfully owned pets in the past/present. We welcome first-time pet owners, but like to see that they've done their homework and fully understand the work, effort, and routine expenses involved in owning a dog. Our goal is to place dogs in homes where they will be happy, healthy, and well-cared-for throughout their lives.  

Please Note: BRSM is an all-volunteer organization; we do not own a kennel or retain employees. Our volunteers work in the "real world" and care for our foster-beagles in their own homes. It may take a few days for us to respond to your adoption request. We understand how exciting the adoption process can be, and we appreciate your patience! If you have submitted a completed application and have not heard back from us within one calendar week, please call (301) 934-3616 and leave a message that you have a completed profile awaiting review.
