Missy was found wandering down a four lane highway and brought to the Westmoreland Animal Shelter.  Beagle Rescue was contacted and asked if there were room for her...  She was underweight with ugly urine burn on her legs, pads and the back of her legs, with a lot of hair missing on her lower legs, neck and face.  Her teeth were in terrible shape, the canines worn down flat almost to the gum line.  She has cauliflower ear from an old injury that was never taken car of.  She weighed about 13 lbs. and was extremely timid.

The vet said that she was a breeder and probably never missed a season for puppies.  By the condition of her legs and feet, he felt that she had been kept in a small wire cage--her teeth worn down from chewing on the wires.  Although there was nothing that could be done for her ear, she was spayed, and had several diseased and decayed teeth removed.  Missy was heartworm positive when rescued, but has finished her treatment (as of 11/07) and is healthy and ready for adoption.

Missy is a tiny beagle (usually prized for breeding), standing only about 9" at the shoulder.  She now weighs 19 lbs.-- actually making her just a tad porky--at about 1 lb. overweight.

She's not generally a barker, although will sing as you dish up her dinner.  She walks well on a leash, has never had an accident in the house, and has never met a human, dog or cat that she didn't like.  She's fine around kids, but can be a little skittish around the small bouncy sort.

She rides well in the car and is, in general, a pleasant companion.  Should would be a great companion for an older person or couple who want a small dog who is low maintenance.

Adoptive Status:  Spayed, UTD on shots,  heartworm negative, and micro-chipped.

Dream Home Minimum Requirements: Just needs love and a human to love her.

Owner Aptitude Level:  Beginner.
