Johnnie is a young, happy boy with a zest for life.  He is small, about 13” tall at the shoulder, but that doesn’t hamper him in any way.  He plays with gusto and will take any of his foster brothers on in a good game of tug the ear, leg or any part he can grab.  He plays hard and tough, but there is no malice. When the play session is over, everyone is buddies again.  He does like to play with toys too, but real dogs are better.  If no one is responding to his playful overtures, he will vocally ask them to play.  This is about the only time that Johnnie barks. He doesn’t dig in the yard when left out, but has decided that like the little engine that could, he can climb the 4ft. chain link fence.  For this reason, it is best to supervise this rascal when left outdoors.  Although he only tried it once, there is no reason to believe it won’t come into his mind again. 

Johnnie is a smart fellow that learns quickly and responds well as most beagles do, to positive reinforcement (translation: food for work).  He is housetrained, but doesn’t yet “tell” his foster mom when he needs to go out.  He is learning some basic mealtime manners, and no longer mauls her before she can get his food bowl down.  John is a slow eater, and will sound a snarl or growl to warn the gulpers in the household that he in not yet done with his food if they get too close to his bowl.  Once he is done though, they are welcome to have anything that he left behind.  He is small and quick and doesn’t have any qualms about stealing an extra treat from the slower larger dogs when his foster mom is handing out the goodies.  He generally comes when called and sits to receive treats, but we won’t claim he is trained to come or sit on command.  He likes to go for walks and does well on a lead.

Johnnie is also a people lover.  When he sees you, he wags his tail so fast and hard that soon the whole back half of him gets going.  He is the first to jump up to get his share of the loving.  We're working on “off”, but Johnnie translates that in doggie language to “please jump up on me so I can pet you”.  Unfortunately, he is so cute, that he usually gets his way.  He is a little stubborn.  This shows when he is ready to settle for the night and chooses the chair or later the people bed to rest.  His mom puts him down and says “off” several times until he gets the message.

Johnnie is a sweetheart!  He is a very special and beautiful boy looking for his new forever home.  If you are looking for a loving dog that can keep up with your energetic lifestyle and still wants to snuggle at night, give Johnnie Walker Blue a chance.
