Indy’s foster parents think his name should be short for Indiana Jones – he’s an explorer!  Sure, he’s technically reaching retirement age in human years, but we’re talking active retirement, constantly jet-setting off on the next big adventure.  If he were a human, he’d be off camping, hiking, fishing, and seeing the world – no bingo and early bird specials!Indy’s idea of a perfect day involves a long walk outside, where he can sniff every (and we do mean EVERY) tree, followed by a snooze in a patch of sun on the couch or the bed, all with a special person who loves him.  He loves to meet new people, is great with other dogs and likes to play with his foster sister.  He even puts up with the boxer puppy next door who likes to try to live up to her breed name by socking him!  He’s not food or toy aggressive and would probably be ok with kids who didn’t pester him.  He has howled at stray cats in the neighborhood, however he has not shown any signs of aggression toward them.

In case you can’t tell by looking at him, Indy is SHORT.  He’s most likely half basset, judging by his stumpy legs, big feet and giant ears.  The problem with being short is that you can’t see what’s going on above you.  Indy compensates for this by investigating counters, tables, windowsills, etc while standing on his back legs like a kangaroo.  He’s got it all figured out - this way, he’s not technically jumping on anything! (“look Ma, no hands!”)!  When the mood strikes him, he shows his enthusiasm with a joyful, baritone AWWWOWOOOOOOOOOO!  His good-natured antics and zest for life keep his foster parents laughing.

When Indy was picked up he was diagnosed with a heart murmur.  Further tests showed he had an enlarged heart but he does NOT exhibit ANY signs of heart disease.  So really, he’s just a little guy with a big heart! Overall, he is very healthy – regular vet checkups will make sure he gets the most out of his second chance at life.

Indy is extremely people-bonded and has become VERY attached to his foster dad.  His favorite game to play is to roll on his back and wrap all 4 of his legs around his foster dad’s arm (“I got you now!!!”) with a big smile on his face.  In general, we have noticed that he tends to bond more easily to men; we think he was probably a guy’s best buddy.  Do YOU need a best buddy?
