Guthrie is a little fellow whom we consider "profoundly shy."  He is happy and playful in the company of beagles, but very, very wary of human contact.  He has been in his foster home for nearly a year and has just recently screwed up the courage to sniff her hand.  Whomever accepts the challenge of bringing him home will need much patience in gaining his trust.

We cannot place Guthrie in a home with young children.   Although he poses no threat to them, children will intimidate him, and the risk of an accidental escape is  much too likely.  Because he is fearful, if he escapes the yard, he may run blindly, not caring about cars or other hazards.  And he surely won't come when you call him back.  Guthrie would probably benefit from the company of another non-aggressive, outgoing, happy dog or dogs.

We can't know what demons dogged Guthrie before coming into rescue, but he continues to bear the emotional scars and he needs a quiet, settled home with someone willing to wait to gain his trust--maybe for a long time.

If you are looking for a loving lap dog, Guthrie is not your man, but if you have time, patience, and want to make a difference in a dog's life, you may have found your guy.
