Darby O'Gill

Male ~ 4 yrs old ~ 30 lbs (LaPlata, MD)

The shelter is a frightening place even for the most social of dogs,
and Darby was clearly frightened in this shelter shot.

It seems as though every year at St. Patrick's time we inherit a beagle who's got the Luck 'O the Irish with him.  Darby's clock had wound completely down at the shelter when his lucky BRSM leprechaun swooped in to rescue him.

Darby came into his foster home people shy, but beagle happy.  He was thrilled to see that his new digs was full of beagles!  He is very comfortable in the presence of other dogs.  It is probable that his experience with humans hasn't put us in the best possible light.  He will soon be accustomed to gentle handling and soothing words.

He is still getting settled in and will begin treatment for Heartworm very shortly.  If you can contribute to his veterinary fund, it would be appreciated.

Adoptive Status:  Neutered, UTD on shots and micro-chipped within two weeks after the posted date.  Darby is Heartworm positive and will not be available for adoption until the end of May-ish.  Still, don't let that stop you from coming to meet him.  When he's done treatment, he'll be good as new and ready to go!

Dream Home Minimum Requirements: Because of his timid nature with people, he'd do best in a quiet adult home with another non-aggressive dog.

Owner Aptitude Level:  Beginner.
