Rainbow and Lucy

Super Hero Matthew swoops in to rescue Rainbow from a life of servitude in rescue!

Rainbow is a quietly adventurous dog.  When we went to Mara's to look at dogs to foster, we sent my ten year old son Sam into the "dog room."  All the dogs were running around very excited, but Rainbow walked right up to him and put her paws up on his thighs and wagged her tail.  It was love at first sight.  Sam was hooked.  We then brought her out to meet the "Wild Child," four year old Matthew, and my very excited, very large yellow lab Lucy.  Although obviously nervous, Rainbow walked directly up to both of them with curiosity and determination to go home with us.  Once we saw she could hold her own with those two, we decided to take her home.

She stepped right into our lives and routines immediately.  After about two hours we knew we were official fostering failures and would be keeping her.  The six months she's been here has only confirmed our initial decision to keep her.  She is very loved and loving.

Rainbow has been very entertaining to us since she arrived.  Her and Lucy have bonded, but they have definitely developed a unique relationship with each other.  They are total partners in the yard...barking at anyone who passes by the fence.  Also, they are in total cooperation in their never ending search for food--even if it's only been two seconds since they last ate.  Problems have arisen over the pet beds.  They only what which ever bed the other dog is sleeping in, but siblings do that to each other.  Also, if you do not pet them both simultaneously, you either end up with a beagle in your lap, or worse, a 110 lb. yellow lab in your lap competing for attention.   The never ending games of hide and seek for rawhide is also quite amusing.  One dogs buries it (in the laundry, the bedding, or your jacket if you leave it out), and the other roots for it until she finds it.  They never eat the rawhide you give them.  They only eat the one that the other dog has hidden.  Very strange.  Rainbow will defer to Lucy as the alpha dog, but don't let any other beagle try to tell her she is not the alpha beagle.  She will correct them right away!

As far as the kids go, when Rainbow actually started to follow Matthew and Sam around while they run crazy and noisy through the house, we knew she was the dog for us...no fear at all.

She is loving and sweet, and we are so happy she came into our family!
