November 5, 2007: Well, it's been just over a year that we have had Nashville. We have had a lot of changes in our lives. John and I are married now. In fact, we got married in May and while we were on our honeymoon, my parents watched Snickers and Nashville. While they were watching them my dad let them out into the fenced back yard and the two American Bulldogs from next door busted through the fence and attacked Snickers and Nashville. Snickers was OK, but Nashville went into immediate shock and my mom and sister rushed him to the vets where they stabilized him, but had to send them down the road to the emergency clinic. My mom knew something was wrong because Nashville was crying and he never cries. So the emergency vet took him and said she would call my mom. A few hours later, she called my mom and confirmed my mom's thoughts--Nashville's intestines were ripped inside and he could die without repair and the surgery was pretty risky, too. So my mom and dad told the vet to do the surgery, and he had part of his intestine removed and lots of bruising from the attack. He stayed in the hospital two nights and then came home. The whole time I was on my honeymoon and my mom didn't tell me what happened because she knew I would have been on the next flight home. But he recovered and we went to Animal Control Court and fought for the Potentially Dangerous Order to be placed on this dog and won. We have also added two more members to our family. In addition to Nashville, Snickers and Kali (the cat), we adopted a kitten, Tigger and another beagle named Chip from the SPCA. Chip is a ten year old beagle and he was at the SPCA from January to July when we adopted him. I just couldn't turn my back on him. I really wasn't planning on getting another dog yet, but he needed a home. Nashville gets along so great with all the animals here. He is such a lovebug. He still watches football and he still sleeps in our bed. We love him so much, and really appreciate all the hard work you guys at Beagle Rescue do. I'm so glad there are organizations like this to help animals in need. P.S. I have attached some pictures of Nashville and his family. December '06: My fiancé and I adopted Nashville back in October '06. At first we were a little hesitant because we already have a beagle and a cat. But now that it has been almost two months, we love Nashville so much and we are so glad he is part of our family. His first couple of days were rough because we found out that he has a back condition that can be very painful, but with lots of rest and medication, he is doing OK. Nashville loves his new life, he especially loves his brother Snickers (our other beagle). They get along great. I have included a picture of them sleeping together (Nash is on the left, Snickers on the right). They love playing together and sleeping together. Nashville loves sleeping between my fiancé and I every night. And now that it is Christmas time, he doesn't know what to make of all the decorations and singing decorations we have! He is definitely a sports dog. He watches football every Sunday with my fiancé and in the top picture, he is wearing a baseball shirt. Nashville said that he misses his friends from the rescue, but he really loves his new life. |
