I met my beagle Sugar (Judy Plumb) a little over
a month ago at PetSmart for a beagle meet and greet. Miss Sugar was
standing in the middle of a crowd of tail wagging beagles, just staring at
the door. She was shy and quiet, but greeted me with sniff then resumed her
position and stared back at the door. There was something about her, I
could tell she had a lot of potential, and I wanted to be the person to walk
her through that door. I spoke with her
foster mom, and I told her how I had lost my beagle Winnie to cancer.
When I met Winnie, she was about 2 years old, underweight, infected with
heartworms, had a raging urinary tract infection, and was scared of her own
shadow, but when I looked into her big brown eyes, I could see she had
potential, and we shared 13 wonderful years. After speaking with Judy
about my interest in Sugar, she spoke to her fellow rescue crew and they let
me take Sugar home that day after checking my veterinary references and
coming to my house for the inspection after the meet and greet at Petsmart.
Sugar has really blossomed since I've been fostering to adopt her. She
has a big sister named Yoshi, who welcomed her to the pack and the cats love
her laid back disposition and will often curl up next to her for a cat nap.
She loves belly rubs and cuddling up on the couch or in bed. And now
that she understands the leash, she loves to take long walks through the
neighborhood. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to give
Sugar her forever home.
