Houston

We are once again failing fostering...and adopting Houston.  I know I have to stop keeping all the great dogs, but we can't help it!

Houston and his Brother Dallas came to us from Sherri's house.  Both were very loving and affectionate for dogs that couldn't have had that much human socialization.  Dallas is being "fostered to adopt" by another family, so that left us with Houston.

When Houston came to us, he was about a year old.  Although he has a lot of puppy in him, he is very calm for a dog his age.  He has an appetite for action figures, but we are trying to teach him that bones are better.  Right now, if there is a Batman figure and a bone lying next to each other on the floor, he will still choose Batman, but we're working on that.  My 4 year old now is the proud owner of what we have termed the "Adams Family Action Figure Collection" complete set without heads, feet, or arms, depending on what Houston has gotten to, but the 4 year old still plays with them.

Houston is also an escape artist.  He was digging out under our fence for awhile until we installed an electric fence around the regular fence.  After a few zaps he stopped trying to dig out and is now secure in the yard.

Lucy, our very large lab, has adopted Houston as her own.  She is very mother-like with him and he seeks her out to play with.  Considering that there are four beagles here right now, it is evident they have a special bond with each other.  He does, however, get along well with all the dogs in the house as he is the mist submissive fellow on the planet.  He is also affectionately referred to as our "mush puppy," because he is a total snuggler with everyone in the family.  He is learning commands quite well and usually chooses to listen.  He will even drop an action figure if told to...of course, he'll pick it right back up again if you don't take it away!

We went on vacation in July and needed to bring him back to Sherrie's for a week to board.  When he was dropped off, although he knows and loves Sherrie, he was obviously distraught at being left by us.  When we came back and he was so happy to see us, we decided we couldn't part with him, even if another family were interested...so Houston is ours now.  He hopefully completes our dog family, as I think we are maxed out at three dogs.  I am continuing to foster though, so you never really know, do you?

We are so glad to have him here with us.  He is well loved and he loves us back.  It's the perfect relationship!
