10/04 - After having Chappy a month, we decided to have his teeth cleaned.  When they put him to sleep and got a good look at his teeth, some had to be pulled because they were abscessed.  Once he got over the pain, he became a new dog; he must have been in pain for years.  Now, he chases and tussles with Buddy, and they are so cute.  He smiles most of the time now.  I cannot say enough about adopting a senior.  Chappy is my own Black Beauty story of an elderly gentleman who gave his all and ended up having the retirement he earned.

08/04 - Chappy became Buddy's (formerly Bandit) brother.  Chappy is a senior who was once a hunter's dog and was probably thrown out into the woods to fend for himself when he got old (great retirement system his employer had!), as that's where the animal shelter found him.  He is learning to be an indoor dog and loving getting to sleep in his own crate any time he wants.  He has just come into the family, so he is not sure about all the oddities of life inside, but is enjoying the personal attention.  It's very interesting to watch the interaction of the mix of a formerly abused dog and one who was simply one of many.
