Benny is a small, beautiful, playful young guy that is energetic and loves to be outside. He is not aggressive and plays well with other dogs. He will stand up for himself if they get too rough during the play session, but never holds a grudge. He is a sweet fellow that enjoys a good rub, tolerates kisses and prefers not to be picked up or held too tightly. He just shies away when he is uncomfortable, never snapping to get his point across. Benny is very timid with strangers and fearful in the big outside world. For this reason, he must be placed in a home with adults only or older children preferably with at least one other dog. He has been in rescue for several months and still shows fear in every new situation. He knows his name and usually comes when you call him, but doesn’t know any other commands, and would benefit from obedience training. He still needs work on the leash in social places like a Petsmart parking lot, but does better on a leisurely stroll on the local neighborhood street. He doesn’t like thunderstorms, and will hide in his crate or a nearby closet for safety’s sake. So this spring he has intimately learned the contents of my bedroom clothes closet. He is always on time for meals and usually will accept treats. He is mostly housebroken, and crate trained, but wants to be the first out when we return home. He sleeps in the crate (with the door open) during the evening TV hours and has claimed a nesting bed in our bedroom for his own (but will share it with his siblings if they ask). He sleeps through the night but generally is an early riser. He loves to tell us when the rabbits, squirrels or power walkers are in the vicinity of his yard. Benny is a wonderful guy that needs a little extra loving care, but can fill that small spot in your life that is empty. Adoptive Status: Neutered, UTD on shots and heartworm negative. Will be micro-chipped upon adoption. Dream Home Minimum Requirements: Benny needs a securely fenced yard, or he needs to be leashed up each time you take him outside. Owner Aptitude Level: Benny's not a difficult dog, but his new family will need to be patient while dealing with his fears. Posted: 5/31/09 |
